FEATURED
BUILDER:
Mesa Cycle's Ralph Aguirre
"You gotta love what you
do..." Great word of advice from what many
believe is one of the great motorbuilders of
our generation. Ralph Aguirre. "...cause
you're never gonna get rich building bikes."
Ralph follows up with a reality check.
We
see good builders on the TV lately who make
some incredible bikes and we see the glory and
ease in bike buildiing. What we don't see are
the excruciating headaches when the parts you
order finally come in only to find that they
sent you the wrong part. Or trying to find good,
reliable help. Or, all the planning that takes
place in chopper building that is skimmed over
in these shows. Ralph is a REAL bike builder.
Ralph and Mike at Mesa Cycle put their sweat
into each bike, cause it is the sweat that puts
soul in steel. Each custom bike is carefully
crafted to exact customer standards. And with
over 30 years in bike and hot rod building,
Ralph knows the ins and outs on what makes a
bike, not only ride safe and performs well,
but that is a work of art in itself.
Ralph
reflects a bit on Rocky. Rocky from Bob Taylor
motors taught him what he knows about engine
building over 15 years ago and Ralph keeps Rockys
legacy alive by teaching Mike the relationship
of top-end and bottom-end engine building. The
finesse of wiring a Mesa cycle. Mike has been
with Ralph for the past couple of years on a
full-time basis riding his Road King to the
shop from Riverside, no matter the weather.
Ralph says of Mike: "I appreciate the fact
that he 'knows to ask' when he is stuck on something."
Building
and repairing motors and trannys are the core
of the business. "It's what pays the bills."
Not very glamourous. His engine work is sought
after as far away as Japan, where recently he
sent a crate of knuckle-heads. It's building
custom choppers that gets his blood flowing.
Ones like the Damon's painted black with traditional
flames chopper he is finishing up for Doc. Like
the one he is building for himself, Long, Low
and Hard. Look for Doc's bike as our featured
bike coming soon.
Give
Ralph a call or stop by his shop. And tell him
you heard about his shop at Bike-Shows.com.
