T-WRECKS
PART 2
Bike Re-Build
So, T-Bone,
What's it got?
For
those of you who haven't read what happened visit T-Wrecks Part 1 HERE.
The bike was put together
at Mesa Cycle. Ralph and Mike did a great job putting all the parts together in
a relatively short time. Bret from BD Custom Graphics who did the sick paint job
said it was like working on one of those build shows, Everyone getting together
to put the bike back before the summer season ends.
The first shop that I took
the bike to said it would take three months to straighten the frame and put it
all back together. That was way too long for me, so I called Ralph and he said
they could do it in a month. And they met that deadline. I was very fortunate
to have met Ralph and Mike and highly recommend Mesa Cycle. To
learn more visit their article HERE.
Ralph couldn't have put
it all together without the parts from Carl at Cyclepath Cycle. I went through
the Custom Chrome and Drag Specialties catalogs and chose to order:
Lindy Bar
Rick Doss V-Style Rear Turn Signal Bracket
Rick Doss V-Style Spotlamp Bracket
CCI Spotlamps with Visor Housing Ring
Headlamp Trim Ring with Visor
Chrome Legs and Cans
Polished Floating Rotors
Samson True Dual exhaust with baffles and torque valves
Samson 33" Straight Fishtails
Chubby Bars with electrical stuffed inside
HD Nostalgic Hand Grips
3" round mirrors
Chrome hand controls
Lay-down license plate
Lay-down rear tail-light lens
Cyclevisions The Flasher flashing brake light system
'62 HD Tank Badge (white star)
Carl did a great job ordering
the parts and with a couple of distributor problems - the lamps in the spots were
different - he quickly remedied the situation. I strongly suggest you visit Cyclepath
Cycle and you will find one of the best people in the industry there ready to
help. Go to www.CyclepathCycle.com
The paint was done by one
of my past students Bret Dethlefsen. He is a great artist and has painted cars,
trucks, dune buggies, helmets and bikes for the past several years. At first we
were going to paint it to match my 56
Fairlane and then upon further discussion I told Bret to paint it however
he wanted, I only wanted it to be black and blue. Like the bruises, and the 56.
There were a couple of stock
items on the 04 Road King Custom that I wanted to keep. The chrome wind deflector,
clean front fender, streamlined floorboards and pegs, dash, and the saddlebags.
The added products personalize the bike just enough.
Now it's time to Ride!
The first two shows I brought the bike to was Curleys Bike Night where it won
Best of Show and to the Hot Rods and Harleys Show at Fuddruckers where it won
2nd place overall. Which was a bit of a bust 'cause the first place winner was
a Road Star. If the show is called Hot Rods and Harleys, should only Harleys be
eligible to win? I suggest that next year the show is called Hot Rods and Bikes
Show.
A bit scary at first getting on the freeway and with our first decent trip to
Griffith Park, my buddies and I almost got nailed on the 5 when some asshole lost
control in the middle lane and was swerving all over the place. Fortunately he
didn't hit anyone or thing and straightened it up only to look over at my boy
Billy with a shit eatin' grin. "This ain't funny!" Billy yelled as he
saw the passenger was white as a ghost.
What's next?
The stock seat is being replaced and turn signal trim ring kit with smoked lenses.
Then plenty more riding! It is just a bummer that two months went by without being
able to get back on the horse.
Ride Safe.
T-Bone
