Bike Frame
When a bike frame is not cared for it can easily
begin to show signs of rust and corruption. In order to avoid having
a frame rust:
• Clamp the bike into a repair stand tightly so that it stays
in place. Then, remove the cranks as well as the bottom backer from
the bike frame. Next, remove the seat post as well as the fork.
• Spray it. Spray some WD-40 on the bike frame itself. An air
compressor can help evenly spread around the oil as it is being sprayed
on. It is important that the WD-40 is spread throughout the frame.
• After the frame has been immersed in oil, it is important to
step away from the bike for a while so that it has some time to dry.
After the bike frame has dried, grease the seat post and the bottom
bracket and the re-install the items that belong in these places. The
cranks also should be reinstalled.
In order to ensure that a bike frame does not become rusted, it is recommended
this process be done at least once a year – potentially more if
a person lives in wet and rainy conditions.
