Bike Helmets
Bike helmets are a vital safety element that all bikers
should want to wear, regardless of comfort or discomfort. But there’s
no reason to be uncomfortable in a helmet – these days they are
made with comfort and safety involved. When choosing bike helmets consider:
• Safety – Safety should always be the
number one concern with bike helmets. This does not mean that a person
has to ignore style; however it does mean that safety should always
be at the forefront.
• Comfort – Make sure to try on several different
styles of bike helmets before buying. Make sure the helmet is snug and
level on the head. There should be no gap between the helmet and the
scalp.
• Quality – Just because some bike helmets appear
to be great, this does not necessarily mean they will be. A person who
finds a helmet that has a CPSC certification sticker on it can be assured
it has passed quality and safety standards.
Other things like ventilation, colors and straps should also be checked
on when buying bike helmets. If a helmet is not well-ventilated, perspiration
could get very uncomfortable. Also, dark-colored bike helmets are not
good to wear in situations when the bike is being used in the evening
or early morning and light is scarce.
