Mountain Bikes

Even though mountain bikes are similar in many ways to road bikes, there are some definite and distinct differences. Some of these differences include:

• Tires – The size of the tire is one of the most distinguishable differences between mountain bikes and other bikes. For the most part, mountain bikes are made with 26-inch wheels, however it is possible to find these bikes that have as low as 24 inch and as high as 29 inch wheels.
The tires on mountain bikes are not only sized differently, but they are designed differently. Mountain bike tires are knobby because they are designed to be able to hold to a mountain trail without slipping or sliding.

• Suspensions
– The suspensions and shocks on mounting bikes are features that are not typically found on other kinds of bikes that are sold. Suspensions on mountain bikes allow the wheels to move more freely and give the rider a smoother ride when he or she is riding over obstacles.

• Disc brakes
– Disc brakes are included on many kinds of mountain bikes. They offer a rider with a greater level of stopping power than traditional brakes do. The biggest reason why is because these brakes stay drier and are easier to clean than other kinds of brakes.

These differences on mountain bikes all serve a purpose and aid riders as they ride on trails or mountains. Despite the differences, the fact is that riding mountain bikes is just as easy as riding any other kind of bike and the extra features only make the bikes easier to use – not vice versa.
