Racing Bikes
Although racing bikes and mountain bikes look fairly similar,
there are some noticeable differences between the two as well. Some
of the ways that these two bikes differ from one another include:
• Tires – The tires of racing bikes are covered
with thin rubber and are pretty smooth. They do not include a lot of
traction or grips on them. The flat surface of the tire makes these
bikes better equipped to ride on the flat surfaces of the road. The
smoother tires allow a person racing on racing bikes to build up speed
and keep that speed up more easily.
Mountain bikes, on the other hand, have tires that are uneven and that
are larger in diameter. Because these tires are larger, they are also
heavier than the tires on racing bikes. Larger, heavier tires make it
easier for a rider to be able to go over items like tree stumps and
dirt mounds without wiping out.
• Suspensions – Simply put, most mountain bikes
are equipped with suspensions while racing bikes very rarely have suspension
systems. These suspensions exist on mountain bikes to be able to allow
the tires to move fairly evenly on mountainous terrain so that a person
can have a smoother ride.
This is largely unnecessary for those who ride racing bikes thanks to
the fact that racing bikes are usually ridden on flat surfaces anyway.
• Brakes – Although brakes are important on both
kinds of these bikes, they use different types of brakes. Most racing
bikes feature v-brakes. These brakes are lightweight and assist a person
who is aiming for speed on his or her racing bikes.
