Recumbent Bikes

Riding stationary recumbent bikes is not always as easy as simply finding a recumbent bike and pedaling away. In order for a person to be able to effectively use one of these bikes, the following things could be done:

• Adjust the seat – It is important that stationary recumbent bikes are properly adjusted before they are ridden. A person who properly adjusts the bike is able to make sure that his or her legs are getting the proper workout. A seat that is too far from the pedals could result in a strained back, but a seat that is too close could result in a workout that is too easy.

• Set the resistance
– Stationary recumbent bikes have a number of settings on them that allow a person to make a workout as intense or as easy as he or she wants the workout to be. For best results, it is recommended to start at a mid to lower level setting and then gradually work one’s way up to higher settings.

A person can ride the bike on a low setting for five minutes, stand up and stretch his or her legs, and then proceed to change the setting to a slightly more difficult level. There are some recumbent bikes that can be programmed to automatically adjust between easier and more difficult settings.

A person who uses recumbent bikes for much time at all will likely begin to see more defined muscles in his or her thighs and calves as well as an improved cardiovascular ability.
